#visaeveryday 5: Nu Greek

I was starving by the time I grabbed a late lunch at Nu Greek on Robson. This is from the same owner as fancy restaurants Raincity Grill and C. Nu Greek is not to be confused with Nu (its sit-down restaurant on Granville), or Nu Street (its food trucks), or Nu Greek Broadway. Got [...]

Calgary restaurant updates and other stuff

Hey Calgary diners, here are a few restaurant re-surfacings worth noting:

Colombian Flavor, one of my favourite hidden gems, which used to be in the now-closed Heritage Flea Market, is now at 2770 Glenmore Trail SE, (403) 457-2484. I think that’s right near the Glenmore Inn.

Longtime Greek favourite, Pegasus, has reopened where the Altadore Dining [...]

CALGARY: Opening and closing

Giveaway

In a random decision (“Jason, pick a number between one and eight”), supersu is getting two coupons for Arthur’s smoothies and juices. Happy fruits!

Opening

I went to the opening of West Restaurant & Bar last week, a huge, gorgeous *three-floor* space in Scotia Centre downtown. It’s from Concorde Group Entertainment, which also runs Flames [...]

Eftikismenos o kenourisos kronos!

Christina’s mom made a gigantic vassilopita or Greek New Year’s bread as part of a fabulous dinner we were lucky enough to be invited to at their home.

The person who finds a coin wrapped and hidden in the bread gets good fortune all year. The tradition in the Frangou house is for everyone to [...]

Boxing day Greek-style

I love being adopted by my friends’ families, especially over the holidays. Funny enough, they like to feed me, and I happily oblige.

This year, Christina’s crazy, wonderful, gracious family invited us over for dinner on Boxing Day (that’s December 26 for all you non-Canadians). They’re Greek and put on a huge spread.

The kefthedes are [...]

EDMONTON: Family-style dining

Everything about Zambelli’s is big. Big menu, big room, big entrees.

It’s a classic family-style restaurant where first dates and screaming kids would all feel comfortable. Though probably not next to each other.

There’s lots of room for big tables without feeling crowded, and the service is very friendly.

There’s something here for everyone: chicken fingers, pasta, [...]

BATHURST: The yummy yum

Five years ago, I moved from bustling Bathurst Street in Toronto (population 4.5 million) to Bathurst, New Brunswick (population 12,000) for work.

Most people thought I was nuts but it turned out to be one of the best times of my life. I even found a little family. Papa Joe and Evy’s had the best breakfast [...]
