Golden, B.C. was supposed to be a quick rest stop on our road trip, but we ended up letting H stretch his legs and use the facilities in Spirit Square downtown, while I checked out the Farmers’ Market.
About a dozen vendors stood in the shade under tents selling homemade jams, natural makeup, pesticide-free produce, pies and cupcakes.
Some very pretty, purple cupcakes from the aptly named Pretty Flour caught my eye. It was also hard not to ogle the adorable baby in a playpen behind her mom, Jayne Baun. She makes custom cakes, cupcakes and other desserts.
It was 10:30 a.m., which also qualifies as cupcake o’clock. We shared a purple cupcake which was gluten-free chocolate with white chocolate, vanilla bean icing. Yum!
We intended on finding a playground, but kicking and throwing a ball around Spirit Square and taking a stroll across the pedestrian bridge was a good enough break for H. Plus he got some big bites of cupcake so he wasn’t complaining.
Golden Farmers’ Market, Wednesdays noon to 5 p.m. in CP parking lot next to Kicking Horse Chamber of Commerce; Saturdays 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Spirit Square.
