I may be a small, Asian woman, but I often have the appetite of a large football player. So Spolumbo’s pork cutlet on a kaiser ($8.50) is right up my alley.
Spolumbo’s was started by three former Calgary Stampeder players. They know how to feed people. The Inglewood deli is always busy, and they do a brisk catering business. They also make awesome sausages, and have ridiculously friendly people behind the counter.
Calling this miraculous sandwich “cutlet on a kaiser” is misleading because as you can see, it’s TWO cutlets piled on a chewy kaiser.
The only thing I was thinking as I devoured this for lunch one day was, “Mmmm… I want to marry this sandwich.”
And “With this bag of pickles, I thee wed.”
Spolumbo’s Fine Foods & Deli, 1308-9th Ave. SE, Calgary, (403) 264-6452. Open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed Sundays & holidays.

As the name of my blog suggests, I will pretty much eat anything.
I’m partial to meats but will suffer fruits and vegetables.
I dedicate this to people who love to eat, and find art in their meals. If this blog piques your interest at least once, then I’m happy as a goldfish that eats til it explodes.

TWO cutlets?@?
I work just south of Spolumbo’s and for awhile it was all I ate. (until I gained 10 lbs from it) The cutlet is one of my favourites. I also love the meatloaf.
I recommend accompanying your sandwich with a salad. They let you do a half and half: half pesto pasta, half balsamic tomato. The combo is perfect.
Thanks to your post, the line up is going to be even longer now. Crazy.
I love my lunch there, but do go at either 11am or 1pm, all else is aggravation for impatient people like me.
Yes, that Cutlet is king, especially if you sub the kaiser for the baguette.
Thursday’s meatloaf….
I also adore the meatball sandwich – messy, but great. I love Spolumbo’s and ate there a lot when I lived in Inglewood, but now that I’m far away I must say – their hours suck. Tons of people go to Inglewood on weekends to window shop/drink beer, and that’s when they’re never open. Unless you get there early on Sat – you’re hooped. Same with after work, unless you catch the narrow window between getting off work and getting down there on time to grab a sandwich – too bad. Who closes by 5:30?? And why are you in the food business? Anyhow, that’s just me
stopping over from foodie blogroll, like what i see, this looks like a feast!
How do you remain a small woman with the appetite of a football player? I also have the appetite of a football player, and while I used to be small, I seem to have gained a physique to match! Now I can’t enjoy food like I once did if I want to lose weight.

So please, tell me your secret!
Tanya: To be honest, I think I’m blessed with great genes. My grandmother, mother and sister all eat like me, but usually stay the same size. But I am trying to exercise more now that I know my metabolism is slowing down.
*sigh* So I guess I’ll just have to ignore my football-player sized appetite. And here I was hoping for a magic solution. I’m so disappointed.
