Imagine my delight when Jason and I asked my father what these were.
“Dried lizards,” said my dad, elbowing Jason. “For enhancing a man’s performance.”

Except I didn’t ask. That info came totally unsolicited. Now imagine MY delight.
Funny tale – I got told a similar thing when I was offered some snake soup in Beijing. Now whether its true or the fellow was pulling my leg & just trying to get me to eat it, I’ll never know.
shokutsu: I think lizards and snake apparently fall into the same “rejuvenating” categories… Did you eat it?
Whoever created this alleged “category” needs to be pressed for further details.
Yes indeed, I ate some out of respect for my hosts who took me to a very nice restaurant. The soup itself was very bitter, and the segments of snake that were cut up into inch long pieces (about the diameter of a thick pencil) and tasted like overcooked squid and were a bit “spiny” – by this I mean it felt like I was biting through some segments of cartilage or soft bones. Not nice…
For the first time since I started visiting this blog I gotta say, “no, I’m not gonna eat that”
