Here’s a blast from the past.
Courtesy of the awesome CBC Archives, listen to Colonel Harland Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame slam Canadian food with southern courtesy.
“I found here a lot of good and a lot of bad, perhaps a little more bad than you do good,” he tells CBC interviewer Joe Taylor in Edmonton in July 1957.
“It’s bland and not seasoned as much as we do in the States,” the good colonel says of food in Canada, before finally admitting that it’s “plumb tasteless!”
When asked if there’s any special Canadian dish that he’s enjoyed, he says: “No, there’s no special that I’ve run into.”

Guess he never tried poutine.
Hey, random thought. Do you think Paula Dean has tried it yet, cause I’m sure if someone brought her some good ol’ Quebec poutine, she’d love you for the rest of your life – especially if you replace half of the cheese curds with chunks of butter… hahaa, gross! You know she’d love it though.. lol.
