CALGARY: Italian break at Lina’s

Lina's, Calgary

Lina’s Italian Market is a great place to shop for Italian groceries, deli meats, cheese, sausages, herbs, and cool imported kitchen gadgets.

But the cafe area in the front is a delicious and economical place to stop too for a quick bite. Pick from a line of fresh, dinner-plate size pizzas and rows of panini, and top it off with a cappuccino. Mmm.

I enjoyed the thin-crust pepperoni and cheese pizza ($5.95). Jason didn’t care for the slight sweet undertone, which I really liked, but we couldn’t tell it was in the crust or probably more likely, the tomato sauce.

I scarfed down the Calabrese panini ($6.95) faster than I should’ve. It was packed with hot salami, provolone, and spicy eggplant. Totally my kind of sandwich. I almost forgot to hand over the half I was sharing with Jason.

Eat, then do some shopping. Or do some shopping then reward yourself with some eats. Or both. Whatever.

Lina’s Italian Market, 2211 Centre St NW, Calgary, (403) 277-9166. Open weekdays 9 a.m.-8 p.m., weekends 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Gotta try they’re tiramisu – its in the takeout section of the grocery store (beside the fresh pasta sauces) – it really is to die for… and I have possibly shorten my life a few days by eating too much of it…

  • That pizza looks mighty tasty! The only pizza I’ve had (which is not much), has been from Pizza Pizza – nasty stuff! Yay for a college student’s life. Can’t wait to go back home and have some awesome pizza in Ottawa. =)

I think my sister would love that Calabrese panini.. lol. I laughed when you said “…I almost forgot to hand over the half I was sharing…”, because if my sister or I was in your position, there’s no way it would leave our hands. Hehee.

  • are you gonna eat that?No Gravatar

Christine: Oh, man, Pizza Pizza! That brings back some university memories. I think my regular order was two large green olive and pepperoni pizza for something like $8 and they came in those awkward long boxes. Tasted like cardboard but hey, it was something.

We shopped Lina’s over the Christmas Holidays and they gave us a free pair of biscotti/espresso plates – they are the cutest things! Our bill came out to only about $30 and I’d hardly call myself a regular, so we were pretty impressed by this small gesture. Lina’s is a jewel and Calgary is lucky to have her.

Have lunch at Lina’s. It’s all good. For the same $ that you would spend at McDonald’s, you can have excellent food.
