Just 15 minutes south of the Millarville Farmers’ Market is Black Diamond, a town named after the coal deposits uncovered in the late 1800s.
We made a quick stop here because Kelly swore by the cookies she once had at the Black Diamond Bakery & Coffee Shop on the main street.
I wish we were in the mood for breakfast because it looked like they serve a good belly-buster, from the standard eggs and bacon/sausage for $4.95 to the deluxe plate for $8.95.
As it was, the half dozen tables were all full.
We stepped upstairs to the back, where the shelves of fresh bread and glass counter of goodies were hiding.
I watched as one of the customers got his own coffee refill since the women at the counter were busy.
This is the heart of small towns, coffee and donuts. OK, I added the donuts part, but there was a big selection of them, gleaming in the display case with handwritten signs.
So even though we were heading to lunch, I couldn’t resist getting a big, fresh apple fritter and a butter tart bar in a brown paper bag. The fritter was gone by the time I got back into the car.
There’s really nothing pithy or witty about this entry. I just like donuts, and I had a good one, so there.

Seriously, I love doughnuts. They’re my downfall. When people bring them in to work, I curse their names. I’ve been known to eat 4 or even 5 of them in one sitting.
These. Look. Awesome.
Thanks!
