I’ve written about how much I love Jane’s on the Common before, but this time, we got to go back for brunch.
I can keep this one short and sweet. Jane’s serves amazing, unfussy food, with great service and astonishingly decent prices.
Jason’s eggs benedict with bacon ($10) came with homemade hollandaise sauce, but the real kicker was the sweet potato biscuit it all rested on. What a great change from the ho-hum English muffin.
I got the shrimp cake and eggs ($12) with gigantic pieces of shrimp, drizzled with cilantro lime aioli. It’s the same shrimp cake Jane’s serves as a dinner appetizer but I got to eat it in the morning. Whoohoo!
The dish itself is huge because the giant shrimp cake is served with potatoes, salad, sourdough toast and a bit of fruit.
Anyway, I can’t go on and on and on forever about how Jane’s rocks, so just go and check it out yourself.
Jane’s on the Common, 2394 Robie St., Halifax, Nova Scotia, (902) 431-5683. Brunch on weekends 9:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Website and menu here.

Oh, Hubby would be upset if he knew he missed that eggs benny when we were there last year. We only had dinner – and the shortbread cookies!
