To find Calgary’s best thin-crust pizza, you have to walk down a blah block of 14 Street Southwest that boasts a payday loan counter, a tanning salon and a porn store. Nestled next to said porn store however is Vogglio D’Pizza.
It doesn’t look like much from the outside with a hand-painted cartoon sign, and not even much inside either, but trust me, this is fabulous pizza.
The guy behind the counter with the backwards cap and long ponytail is most likely Luis, the owner from Colombia. And he makes super duper chewy crisp thin-crust with fresh fresh fresh toppings and lots of them.
We got a small Viennese ($12.25) – anchovies, black and green olives and mushrooms – which yielded about eight small slices. This totally won me over, just enough full-sized anchovy pieces swimming among generous olives in every single bite.
We also got a medium Chaparral ($14.99) – spicy chorizo, green pepper, mushroom and oregano. So good and so proves pizza does not always have to be drowning under bland cheese.
I think the prices are comparable, if not a better deal, to most of the chain places in town. I really hope Luis finds a way to make lots of dough (get it, dough?) because his pizza is the best I’ve had in a long time.
Adventurers should check out Vogglio’s menu too for the more unique items like the Fruit Festival pizza (apple, pineapple, peach, cherry, pear and prunes) or the La Luna Rossa (shrimp, crab pollock, calamari, mushroom and onions).
Most of the buzz I’ve read about Vogglio first came from this thread on a car forum. There’s even a copy of Vogglio’s menu here. So thanks, car guys!

I think you should use your influence!
Nice. Haven’t seen a pizza with so dense a topping sheet before.
You make me wish I live near Vogglio D’Pizza so I could go in and order one of those Viennese pizzas! Looking at the anchovies resting on a bed of olives makes me drool! Oh well…
I tried the fruit fantasy personal size and it was delicious!!! I was full after half of it because of all the fruit loaded on to it. I wish i was a little closer because i would eat there every week!
