My good friends at CBC Edmonton are starting a new series next week on the whole concept of eating local. It’s loosely based on the 100-mile diet, where you buy or gather all your food within 100 miles of where you live.
Two Vancouver writers did that for a year and turned it into a very successful book.
It looks like my friend and former chef Ivor Mackay will be taking his family on the 100-mile diet for a year and will be keeping a blog and posting recipes along the way.
There will be stories on an organic mill, the debate over organic certification in Alberta and a primer on Edmonton’s local markets. You can check out all the radio and TV programming here.

As the name of my blog suggests, I will pretty much eat anything.
I’m partial to meats but will suffer fruits and vegetables.
I dedicate this to people who love to eat, and find art in their meals. If this blog piques your interest at least once, then I’m happy as a goldfish that eats til it explodes.

I am VERY curious to see how this goes for him. I did the 100 mile circle around Edmonton, and it takes us to Red Deer.
No fruit orchards or fresh salmon here.
Today at Madison’s Grill, the waitress offered me a special that consisted of ‘risotto from the Himalayas’. She was very proud of that fact. I said to her, ‘shouldn’t we be eating local?’
it seems very interesting concept. But, i live in istanbul (city with more than 15 millions people). So, in fact, i dont trust (perceive organic) foods that grow in istanbul.
I mean, it may be a bit hard to do it in metropol cities.
