When you wake up a little disheveled, more tired than when you went to bed and maybe a little hungover, the only thing that will make everything better is breakfast. And bacon.
The Galaxie Diner does it all right and it’s so gosh darn cute. The joint is decked out old-school, with checkered floors, tableside jukeboxes, a short counter and red booths.
It’s tiny too, with half a dozen tables and a few seats at the counter. So most weekend mornings, there’s a lineup that snakes out the door.
But take heart, the thoughtful people at Galaxie come out and pour mugs of coffee for you while you’re waiting.
This is food that fills ya up. Eggs are done perfect to order, bacon is plentiful and the peppery hash browns are all-you-can-eat.
I’ve already got a favourite in the breakfast burrito: scrambled eggs, cheese, mushrooms, onions, bacon, beef sausage and banana peppers rolled in tortillas with sour cream and salsa.
The Cody Scramble is an overflowing three scrambled eggs with cheese, tomatoes, green onions, mushrooms and sliced beef sausage.
The leaner, meatier beef sausage is a nice touch, I think. And their condiment selection is top-notch, particularly FOUR kinds of Tabasco sauce.
Despite the lineup at the door, no one rushes you. My belly full, I feel better already. I like it here.
