My favourite lunch place in Moncton is in a cute converted house. I was excited to see Cafe Archibald has expanded its patio and enclosed it to muffle the traffic noise and lessen the mid-afternoon glare.
New Brunswick is an officially bilingual province if you didn’t know. So here in Moncton and as you get further north, you’ll overhear more and more snippets of French conversations.
I think that’s why there are more relaxed European cafes like this, a place to sip strong coffee and read the paper or to enjoy a long leisurely lunch.
Cafe Archibald makes really really good crêpes – and not just the gooey dessert kind. They have meal crêpes the size of a dinner plate, stuffed with turkey, ham, salmon or veggies.
I had the week’s special, a chicken crêpe with white wine sauce, spinach, mushrooms, red peppers, shallots and mozzarella cheese ($8.99 with soup or antipasto salad).
They serve thin-crust pizzas and foccaccia sandwiches too. Everything on the menu comes in generous portions and I don’t think anything is over $10.
Cafe Archibald, 221 Mountain Rd, Moncton, New Brunswick, (506) 853-8819.
Open Mon – Thurs and Sun 10:30 am – 11 pm, Friday and Sat 10:30 am – midnight.
