Five years ago, I moved from bustling Bathurst Street in Toronto (population 4.5 million) to Bathurst, New Brunswick (population 12,000) for work.
Most people thought I was nuts but it turned out to be one of the best times of my life. I even found a little family. Papa Joe and Evy’s had the best breakfast and homemade pies. Joe would even play the piano and sing during the lunch rush.
Then there’s Uncle George. He runs Resto Grec downtown, a Greek restaurant in the mine and mill city. Cecille and Lorraine are the hard-working servers.
My friends Melissa, Karen and I knew we went there too much when George started calling us his little nieces.
It was hard to stay away from the spanakopita, kebab platters, mussels and addictive Greek potatoes.
The beef tenderloin kebab plate was my particular weakness.
I paid Uncle George a visit recently. The restaurant now has a gorgeous patio and business is good. I took photos for the blog and he said to make sure to tell everyone about the “yummy yum.”
So everyone, Resto Grec is the place to go for yummy yum. It’s marvellous.
Uncle George will hook you up. But don’t let him play the bouzouki. He doesn’t know how but will pretend anyway.
